Last year I got a huge amaryllis bulb that came with a shiny red tin pot from Home Depot. I have never grown a plant from boxed instructions before. Well, there was nothing much to follow but dehydrate the peat and transfer it to the red pot. The final step was to cover the bulb with it. At this point, I wasn’t sure if anything will happen to the bulb that looked like a dark rock! More so, as I had purchased this in the Fall with my tulip and daffodil bulbs and now it was January 2022!
I can’t remember exactly the date when I planted it but it was early January. Low behold in few weeks I saw healthy shoots coming out. I was still doubtful about the bloom till a bud was visible. See below lovely photos with timeline. It definitely took some time (around 10 days) for the dormant green bud to open up. I was overjoyed to see pink petals.

The first bloom was on 14th February (Valentine’s Day). And what followed in the next few days was wonderful and heartwarming in contrast to the white bleak winter landscape outdoors.

Today, all four magnificent bright red flowers finally bloomed completing the story of the red amaryllis bulb.
